How to Get Creative Storage and Vignettes in Your Bathroom

A new year  brings a fresh new perspective to our homes and a whole new opportunity to organize and get our spaces in order. A place that always seems to need a little more organization is our bathrooms. Today I’m going to show you a few ways to make your bathrooms more stylish and functional.

Our master bathroom is a decent size and is quite functional if a little dated. Mr. Ethereal repaired a crack in the shower that we adopted when we bought the house last spring, and until we can afford to remodel, everything works for now.

The vanity is large and has his and hers cabinets connected with a vanity space in between. Perfect for a family 24 years ago, but I personally don’t need a separate vanity for putting on makeup. When we do remodel, I’d like more cabinet space vertically in between both sides of the vanity somehow.

The original in-wall medicine cabinets were taken out sometime during the past two decades. Everything has to be stored in the two cabinets down below or in the small over-toilet cabinet in the separate water closet area.

Quick vignette and storage fix

To help create a little more “storage” I brought in two vintage silver trays to hold all of our everyday toiletry items. The photograph on the left shows Mr. Ethereal’s shaving and hair products. The righthand photo shows the tray as it is now decorated.

As I was unpacking things from our move I found this antique shaving mug I’d bought several years ago and had forgotten about. It is perfect to hold all of his newer and older shavers!

I love taking something old and updating it reusing it for its intended purpose, and Mr. E does too.
🙂

Make it pretty!

To replace a generic soap dish on the counter I like to bring in a lovely piece of vintage china. This dessert plate serves up French milled soaps in ethereal style!

Lastly, adding a lovely Limoge tray as a jewelry catch-all adds a final layer of sparkle and caché to the bath.

And here is a pretty quote I found on Pinterest from OnDecal for you…

Labor Day Weekend "Fix It’s" Around the House

Labor Day weekend was all about fixing little projects around the house. Mr. Ethereal wanted to do these things for a while and with a bonus just in, now was the right time…

Laundry needs

Our Sears Kenmore washer and dryer are 25+ years old and these last few weeks as I have been using the dryer, it only blows warm air once in a while. The thermostat must be broken. We learned about five years ago now that replacement parts weren’t being made for our set anymore from a repairman who worked on our washer then, so it is time for a new set.

This has been a great washing machine even with its rusted out case.
Hubby and I have looked at what’s available on the market and I still like a top loader so that is mostly likely what we will purchase to replace these.

Bathroom needs

This vintage commode ran continuously and was too short for us and our aging knees, so we picked out a taller Kohler extended bowl style with a self-closing lid to replace it.

When Hubby pulled out the old toilet he found wallpaper still in place. We thought I’d better paint before he went any farther with the installation so I quickly added some Valspar Comet Dust #5006-1A I used in the craft room (post still coming ~ still need to finish putting some things away) to the area behind the toilet.

Any guesses on how old this wallpaper is?
😉
Here’s the new toilet ready for its new area paint job!
The other bathroom project was replacing the moldy caulking in the master bathroom shower. After Hubby removed all of the old caulking I scrubbed and bleached the lower walls and joints to prep for new caulk.

Electrical needs

When we moved into this house our inspector noted that the three dimmer switches in the living, dining and family room areas needed replacing. Hubby picked out these sliding dimmers with rockers which turn on and off the switch.

No more snap, crackle and pop ~ a good thing!

While Mr. Ethereal was doing these little jobs I’ve been working on a t-shirt quilt for our son’s birthday. Begun in June I have been working steadily on it throughout the summer. The seam binding is being sewn on now. I hope to finish it this week and to share a post with you soon.

Blessings to you,

A Quick Bathroom Craft Project

Imagine the possibilities!
That popped into my head yesterday
and
that’s when I remembered the
glitter sticker bathroom project
my daughter and I put up in the second bathroom
upstairs back at the Big House…

Part of what I like to do to
transition into the New Year
is to go around a clean up
as I put away all the Christmas decorations.
After that, I always feel a little blah
so I like to do a quick project or two.

So today I thought I’d share this quick craft
project with you!
It’s so easy to add these sparkly crystal
letters and swirls to
mirrors around your house.
🙂
Glitter Letters and Ornaments
Mirror Decor

*Just clean your mirror(s) well and
let dry for a minute
*Think of an inspirational word {or words}
to put on your mirror
*Peel off each letter and stick
aligning horizontally as you go
*Add other ornamentation to personalize
your mirror project.
Easy peasy done!
🙂

With the new year…
Imagine what you can do!!!
Have a great day!
Barb 🙂
