Share Your Style #310

Promotional graphic for 'Share Your Style' event featuring flowering plants, announcing Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6pm CST, focusing on home decor, DIY, and gardens.

Happy Wednesday, everyone, and welcome to this week’s Share Your Style #310! I don’t know about you, but I thought July was hot… Then, August roared in with back-to-back 108 degrees Fahrenheit (42.2 Celsius) the past few days, and it looks to be that way all week… So much for getting much done outside! We will try to do more on the weekend, but for now, it’s all about recovery from last weekend’s hot outdoor work session. Hopefully, it is a wee bit cooler where you live! Let’s check out this week’s featured posts, shall we?

I am Barbara Chapman and I’d love it if you’d follow me here on my blog and on any of my other social media sites, too.  Thank you!๐Ÿ’œ

Kitchen update: Wednesday morning, the installers came with our new Jenn-Air gas cooktop and I cannot wait to cook on it! I have been craving stir-fry veggies and chicken so that’ll be on rotation for a while, lol. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This was our one big splurge for the year (instead of a vacation somewhere fun), and I am happy that I will be able to cook better meals (and not burn them) for Mr. Ethereal and myself, as well as for family and friends who stop by.

Late in the day, Hubby called and said our new clothes washer was available for pick up, but I’d have to move some of the construction trash and the bricks out of our truck… It was 4:10pm and the appliance store would be closing at 6:00pm (hence WHY this post is a day late, lol!). After moving 75 house bricks in the morning, I then moved the other 60 bricks to the backyard in the 108 degree heat… We did get the new washer and it is working great! Four loads of laundry so far. ๐Ÿ™‚

My brother Frank and his roommate Cynthia are thinking about coming out for Christmas, so we may have a full house, if our son and grandson and our daughter come, too! I would LOVE to have everyone here as I grew up with three brothers around the dining room table, all making faces and cracking jokes… Miss having family around! Seems like we only see each other after someone’s wedding or funeral… We need to do better with visiting in person, but we do group text!

Also, exciting news for next New Years, but I will share that later. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Below is our house remodeling update. Lots going on and more to come. Things won’t be back together for at least another month or two, but things are progressing. It just takes massive amounts of time, lol! I picked up another set of scaffolding today so Mr. Ethereal can reach the house peaks to work on those.

For now, besides SYS, expect only one other post per week, not the usual two that I have been able to schedule most of the year. I just can’t do it and work on the house at the same time. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Maybe as things slow down in late September… I can hope!

Thanks, friends! ๐Ÿ’œ

  1. Barb, thanks so much for featuring the transformation of my MILโ€™s yard! Such a nice surprise!
I can not imagine doing all the work youโ€™re doing on the house in this heat. I just want to curl up in the AC until September.

    1. Hi Sandra, I really liked your post and thought how much your MIL appreciates all the beauty you’ve poured into her yard. It’ll be stunning as the years go on and the landscaping matures. For us, it is a bit daunting being out in the heat, but I am getting used to it, oddly enough. I am heading out here after lunch to chisel out bricks and mortar so we can rebrick this weekend. Rented an electric chisel at Home Depot though Hubs says we have a little one. I’m not playing around; it looks like rain coming in, so I want to see what I can get done today. And cover up the opening with plastic before nightfall.

And the rats keep coming into the attic to die, ugh! Our closet was REALLY stinky this week… The one is quickly drying up in this heat, though, thank goodness! ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, things are moving along.

I hope you have fun adding more plants as time goes on into your MIL’s yard. The hostas look great and won’t that area look just fabulous when you add a few more?! Do you watch Garden Answer with Laura and her husband on YouTube? She adds great sweeps of plants, though some of that is sponsored, but those five to seven of any one plant look stunning…

      Have a great weekend,
      Barb ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you, Violetta! I’ll look for your posts. I am enjoying the cooktop very much. Still cleaning out some of the cabinets and washing dishes/cookware to remove the granite dust, but the gas is working beautifully! Stir fry for dinner tonight. ;)’

      Enjoy your weekend,
      Hugs,
      Barb ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you, Debbie! I meant to look at your latest posts but didn’t get there. I’m sorry… I will look for your posts for next SYS. Enjoy your weekend as well!

  3. Wow, Barb! You must be sweltering! I can’t believe you were able to move all those bricks so quickly in such heat! I’m excited for you – a new gas cooktop and a new washer, too! I’d have fun cooking and doing laundry, too! LOL! I hope you get a bit of relief from the hot temps this weekend. Thanks, as always, for hosting us all!

    1. Hi Laura, it is looking like today will only be about 102, which is better than 108. We were out all weekend last weekend in 102, and in the shade it is doable. Here’s hoping temps will drop next week! The new gas cooktop is fabulous… So much easier to cook on that that old (though nice!) cooktop! The washer is because our Samsung had two rods which broke on it (that move the tub back and forth) and the middle thing was breaking that it sits on.

Charles worked for Samsung and would receive $500 credits towards appliances once or twice a year, which is how we ended up with w/d, refrigerator and dishwasher from them. All employees receive those credits. Great company to work for; however, they just don’t take care of their appliance issues… Sad to say.

Anyway, have a great weekend, and yes, the new Speed Queen washer is working well! I am all caught up on laundry except one comforter, and I’ll have to run over to a local laundry to do that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Hugs,
      Barb ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Jennifer! I am glad I could feature your Barbie house!! Adding the cubes is a good work-around for more “living space.” I have dolls and little furniture but need a nice cabinet (I had one and sold it at one of our California garage sales…) to display them. Do you know Debbie Barna? She writes Debbie-Dabble Blog and links up here all the time. She has a Victorian doll house and you might really enjoy seeing her posts! Thought I’d share that since you have that in common. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Enjoy your weekend,
      Hugs,
      Barb ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Melynda, you are sooo welcome! I love potatoes, too, and it’s a pain to try and keep them here. They just want to root. ๐Ÿ™ That and this year, we have not been able to grow anything without critters eating them… So bummed!

Also, I guess I didn’t realize that you live pretty close to me! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am just here in Denton, a couple of hours away. We should get together sometime, if you’d like! Cindy from Country Road 407 blog, and Laura from Decor to Adore, live pretty close by, too, as well as Carol from Bluesky at Home. After living in California for 42/43 years, driving 50-100 miles to visit a friend is no big deal to me. I love going for a drive!

Enjoy your weekend and happy canning/freezing,
      Hugs,
      Barb ๐Ÿ™‚
