Our Christmas/Winter break of two weeks off from school was over and we were back to school. However, Nature’s gift of incoming weather showed North Texas was in for some snow! Students were in school for just two days this week, and employees for three (The perfect amount of workdays, if you ask me!) when the call was made to cancel school due to this incoming weather. Made this girl happy!!!
I miss having three weeks off every winter, which is how we had it in Murrieta, California’s school district. Let’s enjoy the etherealness of a light and rare snowfall…

Frozen the movie, found on Amazon Prime
I love it when it snows here! 🙂 It sticks around for just a few days, doesn’t create too much of a mess, and it’s just enough to want to go outside and play in it.
***Just think: “Do you want to build a snowman?” a la Disney’s movie Frozen! If you haven’t watched this movie, it’s cute.
Even though my daughter is now 32 years old, when we watch Disney movies together, we still sing every song! Drives my husband crazy… 😉

This cutie was shared by my friend Aimee via our group chat for work and I asked her if I could use her image in a post. I shared that I would give her credit and add her name to the image.
This sweet Valentine’s Snow Girl is “Rosie” as her eyes are made from roses… Just the cutest!!!

Today’s photo retrospective

No snowmen over here, but when the snow began on Thursday I snapped a few photographs…

Our greenhouse shed early in the day…

Then, later towards evening. I think we received between 4-5″ of the pretty white stuff throughout the day.

.

My favorite photograph! Love how it came out in sepia tones, horizontals and angles…

Squirrels have chewed on our eaves, mostly before we moved in six years ago, but I still love watching them. Last spring and early summer, before it became unbearable to be outside gardening after 9:00am, I even was able to pet a couple of the friendlier squirrels!
They got used to me coming outside, going back and forth; they would let me pet their tails and one his upper back while they are. Squirrel tails are really soft.

I put out unsalted, shelled sunflower seeds along with regular birdseed which has millet for the local birds. The doves like the millet and larger round, brown seeds (anyone know the name??). The unsalted, shelled sunflower seeds I pick up in the loose bulk section from Winco and bag them myself. They are great as they leave no mess to clean up.

A view of the other park bench we have had for twenty years or more as seen outside my bedroom window ~ shot through the screen which covers the full window.

This mini holly has snowball ornaments tucked into its branches!

A look around the western side of the shed. As the climbing roses are several years old now, I left them uncovered. They should be strong enough to do fine in mid-to-low 20’s without issue.

If we have another freeze later this winter where the temps will be lower (like when it went down to 7 degrees Fahrenheit several years ago), then I will bring down and cover the rose canes.

A look out to the south side garden.

One last look at the backyard under the reflective light off the city’s snow… Really pretty and much brighter off-camera. Photo taken around 9:00pm.
I hope you have enjoyed this little tour of our gardens covered in snow. 🙂 I hope you will also share your gardens in winter with me by coming over to link up at Share Your Style. SYS is open on either Wednesday or Thursday around 6:00pm.

Blessings to you,

p.s. If you haven’t read our Snowmaggedon post from 2021, it’s fun to think about that Valentine’s Day’s sugar snow… Photos of Mr. Yoda, too, who has since passed. <3

We talked to Rick’s mom last night and she mentioned the snow. He’d headed down to TX in a couple of weeks for work — and I think he’s hoping it’s gone by then. But when you don’t get it a lot, it is probably a much more welcome sight! Your back yard, especially, looks very pretty!
