This is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice, and be glad in it!! In our Christmas Home Tour post, I think I shared that we found this new Nativity at Costco this year…

.
This one is made of resin and our previous one, also a Kirkland brand from Costco but purchased some 25 or more years ago, is ceramic. Sadly, a couple of Christmas seasons ago (Or was it last year?? I am not sure.), as Mr. Ethereal was getting ready to put the box up in the attic, it finally disintegrated and several ceramic pieces fell out.
Time, sunlight upon that box (many years sitting on a shelf in our California garages in afternoon sunlight), and then humidity (up in our Texas attic) had taken their toles on that poor Nativity set…

(Think: “Baltazar…,” says the annoying neighbor character disparingly, played by the late actor Phil Hartman, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character as they watch the now-decapitated Wise Man’s flaming head fly out the living room’s busted window and roll to a stop on the snowy lawn… Sooo funny!)
That’s how I kinda feel about what happened to ceramic Joseph, a wise man and the shepherd… Whaaaaa! ๐ They were all perfect figurines before this accident.
.

.
But, afterall, they are just figures and not the real Christ-child nor his family or the real Wise Kings who journeyed from the East for two years to find Baby Jesus. They are just a symbol, a reminder of who He was.
But to many of us, our Nativities hold that special meaning dear to us, so it’s nice to have another large Nativity to display.
.

.
Tis the season
I think of how Jesus is a Light to a fallen world and how much more we need His light and truth now as we move further into this new age… Drones, rumors of wars, dictators, the media’s half-truths, our government not telling us what’s going on (drones). It’s all a bit unsettling, but having something beautiful as a reminder of what is real and holy and true pushes away those unsettled thoughts and reminds us to focus on HIM, not the stuff of this world.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
.

.
So, from my humble heart to yours, keep putting out those reminders of God and His great love for you this Christmas season… And every Christmas season hereafter! We need Him.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you and your family, Barb, a wonderful Christmas.
Lynne, Thrifting Wonderland
Lynne, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas day with your family!!! We are enjoying ours with family this year. ๐ Happy New Year’s Eve soon!!!
Lovely thoughts, Barb. I hope your Christmas was a beautiful one, as lovely as your new nativity set. (Your thoughts reminded me of ours that apparently had a lot of paper content in its firm bodies because it disintegrated in a basement flood years ago. I was especially sad to lose the Mary with the pretty face but there are now more than a few to fill her role in other sets. Your thoughts are exactly right! (Although I do still have a decapitated shepherd from another set — maybe someday I’ll get the E6000 to hold it on!)
