Happy All Souls Day or Día de Muertos, friends! This past month at school, we created a table with books about Día de los Muertos and scary stories for Halloween. Then we had a treat table for staff on Halloween since we were in school on Monday. Come check out all of our fun!
First, we had a table decorated for September featuring Latino/Spanish authors, which then begat my idea for a Día de Muertos table display!
We had a substitute for our librarian on the day we pulled all of these books and together we found scary stories from around the world, Halloween books, non-fiction books about witches and more. Plus, we also had a couple of really nice books about The Day of the Dead/Día de Muertos with sugar skull candies on the cover and children celebrating their ancestors in ceremonial costumes.
The students had a good time browsing all of the books and reading most of them! Yesterday, I put all these away and prepped for our next table, which I’ll share more of in another post. 😉
Funny Reeses Spiders
I texted my daughter and asked her for the recipe last week sometime. I thought she had made these (I still think she has), but she said she hadn’t made these Reeses Spiders before. But, she did find me the recipe on Pinterest or TikTok and sent an image.
Super easy to make, here are the ingredients:
- Reeses Peanutbutter Pumpkin Candies
- melting chocolates
- candy pearls or pre-made candy eyes
- small twisted pretzels
How to make them:
- First, break off the “rounds” of the pretzels and save for the spider “legs.” This is the difficult part as so much gets busted and just leftovers. Save and snack on later. ;)’
- Melt the chocolates in a microwave-safe dish. Use the melted chocolate to glue on the pretzel pieces for legs. Use a pastry bag and fill with hot melted candy melt chocolate or a Ziplock baggie with a point cut off (that’s what I used).
- Glue on the candy pearls for eyes with chocolate using your pastry bag.
- Dot each candy pearl with chocolate creating the center of the eye.
These were so much fun to make and this is definitely something you can do with your children and grandkids!! The eyes were the fun part as you can space them far apart or close together. I made some cross-eyed spiders because that’s just part of the fun!
The first few I used melted regular chocolate chips and those just didn’t set up well, so… Mr. Ethereal and I ate them… with ice cream. :)’
But after mixing in melted chocolate melts, the pretzel “legs” “glued onto” the Reeses candy pumpkins well.
Wouldn’t these make cute crabs, too, for a summertime pool party?? Just use blue chocolate candy melts and “paint” the Reeses Pumpkin Candies with the blue all over, first. Then use the same pretzel legs…
I’ll need to go back and find some more pumpkin candies to freeze for later on. 😀
This was a really fun project and no spiders were left uneaten, so I’d say this was a hit!
