Mayflower Park and Campgroundis part of the Riverside County Parks system and is a hidden jewel of a campground. Right on the Colorado river with a boat marina providing access for canoes, kayaks and fishing boats, it couldn’t be easier to float, paddle or motor your way up or downriver. There are fees for fishing and launching of watercraft payable at the main kiosk as you enter the park.
The campground itself has 152 roomy RV sites (140 water and electric RV sites ~ with a separate dump station available for use as you leave the park; 12 full hook~up sites) and another 27 additional dry tent camping sites available to campers. We arrived just after dusk so mosquitoes were out. Keep that in mind if you come in the fall before the cold kills them off and bring plenty of bug repellant for the evening time. A good campfire will help ward off insects, too.
By morning, though, the pests were replaced with just lovely cool fall weather and the pleasant smell of freshly-cut alfalfa breezing in from nearby farm fields. I took this bug-free opportunity to check out the river while walking my dog and spotted small bass and trout looking for their morning feed in the cobblestones lining the launch ramp.
A gentle slope affords people with walking limitations easy access without fear of falling. Grooves in the pavement help prevent slipping. My knees are beat up from old sports injuries and I found it easy to walk down and back up.
Tiny schools of fish swim near the water’s surface enjoying the morning sunshine’s warmth.
The best featureof Mayflower’s campsites ~ eucalyptus and other trees provide much needed shade for those hot weather months. Park staff and camp hosts were friendly and the park is well maintained. Definitely a place to return to in the future when we have more time to play!
We ate our turkey with candied yams (my favorite!),
cranberry sauce,
our daughter’s wonderful mashed potatoes,
and some mixed vegetables.
While walking around with Yoda yesterday, I saw…
Campers deep-frying their turkeys
and
many families bicycling around,
others were watching football games
or movies
on televisions set outside
their trailers.
During the evening,
it seemed everyone had a blazing campfire to keep warm!
Thanksgiving was a cool one
this year!
It’s really fun seeing how everyone camps!
At nighttime,
families turn on their twinkle lights and party lights.
Some strings are multi-colored,
others are just orange, or red, or blue.
Some change colors.
Everyone is happy to be outside in the fresh air
enjoying just getting away from the
hustle and bustle
and
coming out to get back to Nature!
Today I thought I’d share
a fun craft with you!
Holiday Head Wreaths
Collect a bunch of pepper berries or any faux or real berries you may have in your yard or craft supplies. (These I collected right outside our front door courtesy the local trees!)
Take an old, wire coat hanger, unwind the hanger using a pair of pliers/wire cutters.
Bend this wire into the shape of the head you want to decorate. Either pre-measure your doll’s head/child’s head (definitely!), or just bend your wire and keep checking the wire frame you are creating against your intended “wearer.” I wrapped my wreaths only once for the big angel (should have done twice ~ was hard to glue only to one wire…), and twice around for our tall lady statue (will share her later).
Using hot glue, glue on berries and their stems to the frame layering berries to cover all the way around the wire edging. At first, I had a thin layer of berries, but then decided to make a thick wreath by adding berries to the “tops” and “bottoms” of each wreath.
Place your wreath on your wearer and Enjoy!!!
Our little trailer 😉
These wreaths
could easily translate over to large wreaths, too.
I thought about making
a large wreath out of these luscious berries
(maybe finding the mostly light pink and white berries!!! Ooooh!)
The first cool Saturday morning we had in September, I set out to bake some of my banana chocolate chip muffins!
A new year for
French Ethereal~
Of course as you know we are no longer living in our lovely home in the town of Murrieta, California…
Our new home is a travel trailer approximately 27′ in length and about 8′ wide ~ one tenth the size (basically!)
of the home we just vacated as the sale
finally went through in August 2015.
Yoda enjoying one of his daily walks at beautiful Lake Skinner! Yoda thinks all 14000 acres belong to him and her barks at every new dog that comes out to camp. {And also at the dogs who belong to other camp hosts who live here! Lol!}
Life full-time in a 27′ trailer has its challenges, cooking being one of them! The extra-large cutting board provides some much needed counter space (of which in this trailer… There is NONE.) We use the stove to dry dishes set into the stovetop’s wrought iron grates propped up on their sides, and ALL dishes have to be washed after every meal. 😉
We ended up moving our trailer several times already
for various reasons.
One of which is… We have become “camp hosts” which means we are here to help folks who are camping
if they have a need or there is a problem
after hours.
So far, so good!
🙂
Lovely little flower blooming in the wild grasses surrounding the campgrounds.
Where one door closes… God opens another ~ I spent a lot of this year really stressed knowing that we would have to leave our home of 12 1/2 years. We put EVERYTHING and I do mean everything into two 10′ x 25′ storage units. There were many tears, fits of anger, depression, the works… But we are on the other side now and I think God was very loving, very gracious and very sure that He knew we would love being here in a beautiful area with many species of birds, raccoons, skunks, mule deer, bobcat, and coyotes (Yoda loves sniffing for all of the new animals!). I’ll share the photos of the inside of our home in another post soon, but for now this will be all. 🙂 I’ll share some of the craziness of trying to make good meals while having to pull up every seat cushion to get at the right pots and pans! But, truly, this is a lovely place to be and since French Ethereal rolls with the punches, and I was once called “RESILIENT”… French Ethereal will be evolving with the changes… Just a quick post on this Tuesday evening to let you know I miss visiting with you and I will be trying to post more and share The New French Ethereal!!!
Barbara’s Victorian Tea House, 7491 Etiwanda Avenue, Ranch Cucamonga, CA 91739. Hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 11am – 3pm. Please call 24 hours ahead for reservations ~ (909) 899-1700. Off HW 15 at Foothill Blvd to the right, away from Victoria Station shopping center/Bass Pro Shop.
A lovely home built around the turn of the last century now a sweet tea room adorned with lots of lace, ribbons and bows and pots of tea!
What must be a hundred year old tree out front of Barbara’s Tea House in Ontario/Ranch Cucamonga, California.
My friend, Gloria, and I went up to have tea in early February. No one else from our tea group could go
as some of the ladies were ill, but we decided to go anyway and we were glad we did!
Gloria and I had the same tea luncheon, the “Princess Patricia’s tea” which included three delicious tea sandwiches; one large scone with mock Devonshire cream, cherry preserves, and lemon curd; fresh fruit and a homemade cream of broccoli soup that day. The menu also included a teapot-for-one! (I always love having those cute individual teapots!)
{Sorry these photos are blurry! I took them with my old iPhone!}
When we arrived for our 11:00am sitting, there was only one other party so it was quite quiet and pleasant. Lovely music played in the background
as we began with our scones and first cups of tea…
Next came a lovely, clear-glass compote of fruit
after the scones and before the tea sandwiches…
A two-tiered server was brought out lastly withour sandwichesarranged sweetly around the lower floral plate, whilethe desserts consisting of a chocolate-dipped-then-drizzled strawberry (it was huge!),
a couple of chocolate truffles and little cakes of lemon curd nestled around the top flowered plate.

My sweet friend Gloria!
The service was lovely, the food delicious and the home delightful! And, I love Barbara’s motto from her menu guide: for those who cannot get to tea but would love to have one:
“Do you know someone who loves afternoon tea and is unable to come to our tea house? Consider “Afternoon Tea To Go.” It can be a very special treat for a loved one or special friend who is homebound. Please call 909.899.1700 to place your order.Thank you.”
I thought this was especially lovely, as not everyone thinks of people who can’t get out and about or who may be ill… A lovely, ethereal sentiment… 🙂
Your illustrious blog hostess, ME! 😉 Not my best picture, but will have to do for now. 😉 Love the heart necklace my husband gave me for our second married Christmas together and the heart tea-pin!!
Vignettes, an ethereal store after my own antique-browsing heart, located in the beautiful and sunny antique district of Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, hosted author Fifi O’Neill to a book signing from 12 noon to 5pm, on Valentine’s Day 2015. “Fabulous Fifi,” as she is often called, has just published her third book, Prairie-Style Weddings… PRAIRIE-STYLE WEDDINGS: Rustic and Romantic Farm, Woodland, and Garden Celebrations (Chronicle Books, December 2014, $30 USD/Hardbound).
Vignettes is a beautiful French-inspired atelier located in the antique district/Ocean Beach area of San Diego ~ 4828 Newport Avenue, San Diego, California 92107. Phone number: 619-222-9244. Open daily, call ahead for hours.
View along Newport Blvd. looking towards Ocean Beach and the Pacific…
Lori Chandler, the owner of Vignettes, and her staff
were gracious hosts sharing gift-wrapped chocolate hearts and glasses of champagne with everyone who purchased one of Fifi’s new book and/or
came to shop and meet Ms. O’Neill.
I’m going to do a write-up of Vignettesin another posting but wanted to share just a few
photos from the shop…
Fifi O’Neill at her lovely signing table outback of Vignettes… Two designers had set up this beautifully decorated tented area with everything inspired by Ms. O”Neill’s Prairie-Style Weddings book! Even the parachute covering the Easy-Up was pink!
For those of you who read decorating/shelter magazines but might not be familiar with
Fifi O’Neill…
Ms. O’Neill is the former editor of Romantic Country magazine and is the editor of French Country and Prairie Countrymagazines ~ both Country Decorating Ideas
publications published quarterly.
I have been reading both of these magazines for years
and drooling over Fifi’s decorating style!!! She is originally from just outside of Paris and I think she brings a fresh Parisian flare to our American homes.
Her decor tends towards mugs and dishes with cute French words printed on them, worn clock faces displayed on a shelf, muslin and drop cloth pillows with French printing ~ she likes toile de jouy printed fabrics!
(Mais bien sûr! Mais je te jure que c’est vrai! ~ but, of course!)
Fifi also decorates with her sister’s embroidered pillows, and she has these little metal hearts hanging around her home that were once used as memorials that I really think are sweet…
And, where would we be without hearts on Valentine’s Day?!!
😉
In this photograph below, there is the first issue of Romantic Country butit wasn’t called that then (perhaps the actual title hadn’t been finalized?). It was called “Romantic Living.” Anyway, I brought all three of these books and magazines with me and asked Fifi if she would sign them.
After shooting a few photos of the outside of Vignettes and photos of the antique district there in Ocean Beach I walked inside Vignettes to go to the book signing soiree…
Well, I walked in the door and there was Fifi O’Neill ~ I practically ran into her! I also met another new friend that day ~ Lidy Baars who owns a beautiful online shop called French Garden House.
I said something really dumb like, “Oh! I didn’t expect you to be right here.”(How dumb was that, right?)
I quickly recovered and said hello properly!
🙂
Luckily, there was another lady there chatting with Ms. Fifi so I joined them {this was Lidy whom I asked to shoot the top photograph} This ended up being where we took the top photo and a few more. I hope that Lidy finds this blogpost someday as I’d really like to thank her for taking these pictures!!! (Thank you, Lidy!!!)
Well, I’ll get off here for now! Been rather excited and
happy prepping this post and I wanted to get it out to you so you can meet Fifi…
She is a lovely, lovely person and though she doesn’t write in her blog much anymore ~ not enough time as she is flying all over the country interviewing and styling people’s homes for print, she said ~ her site is still up and you can watch the video she put up
of her cute little converted garage.
I wish you could hear how sweet her beautiful French voice is!
She is every bit as nice as she sounds, too.
Her style is so cute ~ I know you’ll love her as much as I do!
Please feel free to share this post on your site or through social media. Thank you!
And please sign up for future posts too along the sidebar if you like, too. 🙂
