Creating a Cozy French Country Kitchen for Fall

Hello, dear friends, welcome to this month’s Fall Kitchen Vignette! Our host Cindy from County Road 407 has found a lovely kitchen tray as our inspiration and I’ve given my little kitchen corner a French Country Farmhouse look. Step into my kitchen, y’all!

I am Barbara Chapman and I’d love it if you’d follow me here on my blog and on any of my other social media sites, too.  Thank you!๐Ÿ’œ

Fall Inspiration

Our design challenge inspiration photo comes to us from Mathilde from Brocante Majolie. She has shared a sweet autumnal tray full of goodies:

  • a shallow metal baking pan
  • several wooden cutting boards
  • a sweet framed herb picture
  • a creamware crock filled with much-loved old wooden spoons
  • a bundle of wheat next to two tiny pumpkins
  • a checked tea towel
  • a fall candle wrapped in creamy prayer beads

I love that Majolie has used all neutrals here with just a few pops of color in the orange pumpkins and the small candle jar!

Texture & Glam

This challenge really excited me because I already had cutting boards leaning against this corner of our kitchen counter! Finding the right basket to act as my “tray” just took looking upward to where I store baskets on top of our kitchen cabinets. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Creating a French Country farmhouse look started with:

  • our pumpkin-shaped cutting board
  • plus, two others to add their light and dark wood colors inside the basket

A few years ago, our son & former daughter-in-love gave me this lovely cream and black milk jug country candle from Scheels home decor department. I love it but have yet to burn it!

I love that it looks like an old glass milk delivery from mid-last century. With it, I pulled a couple of pumpkin scented candles from my stash.

And, a “Texas Flag” cutting board to use as a riser in the bottom of the basket…

I started with these few items plus the cream cupcake plate, but that ended up taking up too much room ~ so out it went! I tried a small white ramikan with a lid, but that didn’t work etiher…

Sometimes it takes a few hits & misses to get the look you really want, friends!

I loved the vintage-style creamware jug with our dried garden hydrangeas ~ you might remember it from last month’s Design Challenge ~ How to Style an Early Fall Tableau. Loved the color but it wasn’t giving me farmhouse vibes…

An easy switch to a black chicken wire jar with those same dried florals (and a few more!) brought in the farmhouse look I was going for in this vignette.

Bringing over the fluted glass celery jar with its silverware gives this look the feel of our inspiration photo with its crock filled with wooden spoons.

These white-handled forks, knives and spoons came from visits at Christmastime to the sales put on by the late Judith from Botanic Bleu in early December each holiday season. I miss Judith and her blogging inspiration… Our host Cindy and I went with our friend Laura from Decor to Adore the first time I went. Judith was a lovely lady…

A set of mini creamware salt & pepper shakers picked up from Cracker Barrel a couple of years ago completes the look…

Thank you for stopping by today! Our friend Michelle from Thistle Key Lane is up next. She has the sweetest fall tray vignette to share with you. Everyone’s posts are linked just below for you…

    1. Thank you, Rachel! I have a thing for tea towels… Happily, we can always get new ones since the oldies always wear out (eventually!). Glad you enjoyed my fall basket vignette. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. I miss Judith too AND her sale! I regretted not getting the silverware. Oh well. Isn’t it fun to clear out a corner and begin again with something fresh? Your basket tray looks very nice. And why have I never thought to put two candles together?! I love it. pinned

    1. Thank you, Cindy! I do pin everyone’s photos each and everytime. That’s something I enjoy. <3 Glad you enjoyed my little French Country basket. This was fun and an easy one, which I really needed this time.

  2. Barb your fall tray looks so cozy in your kitchen corner! I love the celery jar idea for holding your

    1. Thank you, Michelle! I found the celery jar in England back in 2005 when visiting my brother and his family, when he was stationed there with the USAF. It has a crack in it now, so we don’t use it to hold cut-celery anymore, but it did for a long time! It’s a beautiful piece and I love using it for other things now. Glad you enjoyed this post!

      Hugs,
