Welcome, dear friends, to this month’s Pinterest Challenge! If you’ve never been to a PC before, our friend Cindy of County Road 407 gives us a photograph or a theme each month from which to take inspiration. This month, we have a lovely plant-filled fireplace and mantel as our inspiration piece. Yes, spring is definitely on its way and over here, spring is blooming!

Don’t you just love Cindy’s Pinterest Challenge button this month with its pretty books? Books are definitely part of my springtime mantel theme.
If you are coming over from Laura of Decor to Adore for the first time, welcome! Isn’t her mantel fun with its watering can, beads and greenery? Love it!!! I hope you enjoy my take and today’s tour and will consider subscribing to my blog. 🙂
Now, let’s take a look at our inspiration photograph from Sharon @HouseonHeatherField who posts on Instagram…

Love the garden theme
Sharon has a green thumb, to be sure. Up on the mantel, there are trailing ivy, a succulent, and some kind of fern to the left of the basket. By the way, isn’t that basket gorgeous?? Sharon’s use of a nature theme here with both blond wood baskets, the watering can and the subtle wooden bead swag dangling below.
The mass of blooms is stunning… And I love that there is a subtle nod to the real meaning of Easter with the wooden chapel window, balancing the height of the flowers. A few fun Easter eggs add their meaning of birth and renewal with the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter morning.
Down below, I spy a Peace Lily in the crate set on the fireplace hearth and also what looks like the greenery of an amaryllis on the left side right by some sweet mini terracotta pots, and a stack of green books.
Oh! And there is a sweet bunny hiding over on the right nestled in with more terracotta. ,’;) (*my version of a type-written rabbit.) He must be looking for those carrots!

Spring is in Bloom theme
I loved Sharon’s mantel with the wooden chapel window! I used to have a similar chapel window which I had carved out of styrofoam. Sadly, it had broken over the past couple of years so we threw it out this winter as we were cleaning up in the garage and decorating for Christmas. Bummer!
So, I had to go with a Plan B, and just went with a spring-time theme.

The first thing I brought in was this vintage-style resin clock and gave it a good wipe-down. Then I brought in a vase of flowers a friend and coworker at school gave me yesterday. How apropos!

Miranda’s gift was so timely! The colors for spring couldn’t be more perfect and from them I drew inspiration for the books I brought in next.
I wanted to convey spring romance as our tall framed musical print is titled: “To Chloe,” and it has a lithograph of two lovers sitting outdoors. I brought out three books with the same pinks and purple colors as our flowers. I then turned a green poetry book on its side and placed a pewter heart candle snuffer also on its side to signify that they have “fallen” in love.

Here is a better photograph of “To Chloe”… It’s time for love!

I love to garden and here in winter we have four trees sheltering indoors ~ three citrus and one bougainvillea ~ until spring weather allows them to go back outside. Up in our north-facing kitchen window, I recently separated two violets which were in one large pot, and this one in its blue and white jardiniere adds its brightness to the springtime theme of our mantel.

I picked up more green with several moss covered balls added to an antique violet soup tureen made by East Liverpool Potteries Company (no dates, dark green writing if anyone has an idea of age??) and sitting atop a small capitol. The last pieces of our spring in bloom vignette are a faux candle in a little metal birdbath, a book by David Austin about roses, and an easel I’ve had for many years now. It is a favorite piece to display pictures or books on.

Here are a few photographs of the finished mantel and the decorated hearth below (okay, slightly decorated). 😉

Another perspective of the mantel shot from the right side. I didn’t add any swags to my mantel vignette, but I do have a small green tassel hanging on one side and some dried roses hanging from its cuphook on the opposite side.

And that is my spring blooming mantel, friends! Our little cement cherub is still reclining by the hearth.
Let’s check out what Wendy from WM Design House has on her mantel, shall we? I love her style!
