Welcome to this month’s Pinterest Challenge hosted by our good friend Cindy from County Road 407. If you are new to the PC, Cindy shares a photo or an idea each month to inspire us, then we create our own impression from it. This month we are back outdoors to decorate our porches with 4th of July Patriotic Decor…

If you are just coming over from Thistle Key Lane – Michelle‘s blog to French Ethereal for the first time, welcome! If you like what you see here, please feel free to follow my blog and any of my other social media. Thank you!

Our inspirational patriotic porch this time comes from Suzy over at Worthing Court who created this sweet patriotic porch with loads of softs blues with American flag accents. Here are the other things which stand out to me:
- two lanterns and a small truck
- a soft blue dresser
- two wicker chairs with several pillows
- a side table decorated with flowers
- various flag decorations
A few years ago in one of our Pinterest Challenges we shared a similar patriotic decorating idea. It’s worthy to share again. 🙂

A lot of changes have happened since then
That shed in the background ~ it’s at Gramma’s house now. Hubby took it down and rebuilt it for her new backyard. The small metal chair has been spray painted white, and the green bench is now painted black. Both had peeling paint, something I rarely experienced in Southern California as it is so dry there that paint doesn’t flake off. Here, I see myself repainting everything every few years. 😉
And every one of those plants died, lol! I was still learning how often to water plants here in Texas. The answer? A LOT!
We have a big smoker bbq now (as well as our little Webber called Herbie), and we love cooking on it (and them)! Mr. Ethereal really enjoys putting in the wood chips then adding a shallow pan of water to steam those chips. He is getting really good at slow cooking us a nice brisket.

Creating this season’s patio
I found this Calisto pale blue and white striped cushion at At Home this past weekend (not sponsored). I wasn’t even looking, honest! I didn’t want ticking stripes but something a bit different and had been searching for a pretty cushion for several years.
Next, I brought out the reversible pillow covers I shared at another challenge we had. The soft blue on this side works perfectly with the soft blue of the striped cushion.

Like in the inspiration photo, I draped our small outdoor table with a star-spangled napkin for some color underneath some hydrangea blooms I am trying to dry. Our little Continental soldier came outside to pipe for the upcoming 4th of July celebrations, too.

The planters were already on the patio and I just needed to move them around a bit ~ part of a mini renovation to the backyard over the past couple of weekends revamping the drip irrigation. There’s an upcoming post all about this. 😉

Banners were part of Suzy’s patio, and I found this cute “Home” with a Texas theme and blue bonnets also at At Home for $5.99 (not available online).
Turning to the adjacent wall…

We used a flat griddle like a table and decorated it with a crocheted blanket my mother-in-law made for my husband when he was young. Upon it, I set a little jar of sparkly pinwheels and shooting stars alongside an antique oil lamp.

Finding more inspiration from our challenge photo, Mr. Ethereal’s toy truck from the late 1960’s was brought out and put inside a wine crate we have. A small white vase with a blue hydrangea bloom and a photograph of my Marine and myself back some 32 years ago now were also added to this vignette.

Farmhouse patriotic fun
I really like Suzy’s wooden flag she had hanging above her buffet but I didn’t have one, so I used a brand new flag we had on hand. Hanging it there really suits this wall!

I found this “arrow” out on the little shelf Hubby has in the garage. The shelf displays an old fan, an oil can, and several other rusty pieces from early last century. His toy truck sits there, too, usually.
I had no idea he had a weather vane saved in amongst all the cool things his dad and mom had stored in their former garage! It is the perfect piece to display out on the patio.

Here is our patriotic porch all decorated.

The only snafu
My husband brought these long poles home from work. The warehouse personnel in charge were going to throw them away, but Hubby being the sort to think ahead, thought we would eventually need them when fixing our fence or my mother-in-law’s fence. So, he brought them home and here is where they currently live.
I cannot move them as they are pretty heavy. Therefore, we have their added silvery look to our back porch decor. 😉

The other side of the porch completes our patriotic porch inspiration sharing our set of wicker chairs and hanging Boston ferns.
Thank you for stopping by today! Our friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life is up next. I’m sure you will love her front porch as much as I did. 🙂
The list of participants in this month’s challenge is here at the end. Enjoy visiting everyone on today’s tour!

Hi Jeanie! It has been really fun to decorate for the 4th! Even though we are going into summer’s extreme heat, I am motivated to decorate. Must be because I am off school for the summer. 😉
Happy summer and Happy 4th,

I love all your vintage touches. Your metal cloche looks a lot like mine. Great minds think alike. lol.
I got that metal cloche at Judith from Botanic Bleu’s Christmas sale a couple of years ago now. It’s fun to use all over the yard. Happy summer! Happy 4th!!!!

This porch is so sweet!!! And that blue truck — even better with the family history!
Your porch is so cute Barb, even with the poles lol! That little vintage Piper is the perfect accent amongst the greenery and flags! Stay cool my friend xx
This is the perfect place to sit and relax. I love the blue sofa and the planters are such pretty colors too. I think my favorite is the Flag and the picture. Couldn’t be better.
Oh thank you, Marty! Adding our Marine Corps Birthday Ball photograph was a last minute thought as I was looking around for pieces to put together. Glad you enjoyed my rendition! Happy 4th!!!!
You’ve got the right idea Barb of using what you have to make a festive July 4th porch! Hope you are staying cool! This heat wave is here to stay!
