Welcome to this month’s Pinterest Challenge for a fun Father’s Day Picnic Buffet! Our host Cindy of County Road 407 tempted us with creating the best buffet we could create for our dads out there. Here is my Dogs for Dad’s Day Buffet!

Our inspiration came from Lori at Giggle Living who created this bunting-filled soft blues Father’s Day Picnic Buffet filled with all kinds of yummies. Lori’s buffet is all about snacking and a picnic lunch, and that’s kinda what I wanted for my buffet.
If you are just coming over from Lora Bloomquist‘s nautical-themed buffet idea, don’t you just love the sweet little sailboat and striped napkins that she shares?! Super cute!

A tribute to military dads
I came up with an idea to honor our military fathers as my husband was in the United States Marine Corps back in the day. My father, my father-in-law, a brother and several cousins also served in the military. Memorial Day has just passed, too, honoring our fallen military members.
Our American Independence Day is coming up in another month, which always involves city parades with marching bands with former and current military service men and women walking the parade routes in their uniforms.

So, I started my buffet idea with decorating the upper buffet shelves with some of our military memorabilia.
Can’t you hear John Phillips Souza’s band playing Semper Fidelis?
.

And all fathers are also sons, so I set a little book in one of the shelves that I just received as a gift from my boss at work.
It fits with our theme. ๐

What about the picnic food?
Well, that idea was easy to come up with – hotdogs! What is more American than hotdogs?
And doesn’t every military movie you have ever watched include a barbeque scene where there are hamburgers and hotdogs cooking on the grill?
Okay, and sometimes steak, but you get my drift… ๐

So, I surprised my husband with an early Dad’s Day lunch served from our small china buffet:
- Nathan’s all-beef hotdogs
- potato salad
- a couple of beers
- baked beans and cheese to have on your ‘dog
- some snack foods for later on (Pirate’s Booty popcorn and peanuts!)
.

And that’s my version of a perfect picnic lunch buffet ~ Dad’s Day with ‘Dogs!
Up next is CoCo from The Crowned Goat who has another fun & delicious outdoor buffet idea celebrating Plaid for Father’s Day! Her goat logo looks cute out in the marsh reeds… ๐
I hope you will visit all of the participants on today’s Picnic Buffet tour who have many more yummy Father’s Day buffet ideas to share…

What a fun way to honor your husband and all your family members too, Barb. I love all the festive touches you’ve added to bring everything together. It definitely makes it feel extra special. Hope your summer season is off to a great start. Hugs, CoCo
Thank you, CoCo! Summer is off to a windy/stormy start but otherwise good. It’s been fun firing up the bbq and just having time to cook. Nice to be on summer break! ๐ Hope your summer is going great, too!!
I admit, when I read your title, I was thinking of dogs as in pets, not hotdogs. LOL! Anyway, I get it now. ๐ What a pretty hutch. And I love how you are honoring your husband and family with it. Hope y’all enjoy the real day and thank you for joining us.
Thank you, Cindy! This buffet was fun to put together. Charles really enjoyed his early Father’s Day ‘Dog Day! First time we’ve actually used the buffet as a buffet, too. ๐ Happy summer!!!
Loved your added sentiment behind your buffet, Barb. Yes, definitely appreciating those whoโve served!
I think this is perfect. I love your nostalgic setup and you are serving my favorite picnic or bbq foods. I love them all.
That’s so sweet…I love this, such a an adorable idea and so creative, Barb! I bet you had fun putting this all together and I bet your husband and you enjoyed it, and made a great memory too.
