Decorating for the Season ~ Adding Winter Whites in the China Hutch

After the last of the Christmas decorations have been packed away, and the skies outdoors have turned from blue to grey, now is a good time to refresh the dining room hutch for a mid-winter pick-up! Let’s take a tour…

We begin with a look at my favorite winter china which is perpetually in use this time of year ~ Lenox Winter Greetings. These are pieces I picked up at an after-Christmas sale and can still be found online. They are a favorite for serving dessert in the evenings. They have lovely gold trim around each plate’s rim as well as around the handles, rim and base of each teacup. Really a lovely set!

Mixing Silver & Creamy Whites

I added a plate stack and a vintage creamware sugar bowl while kept our winter snowglobe from the look of the Christmas hutch. Silver just seems to go with white china this time of year.

Along the top shelf, I am able to really add layers and here we have the Lenox Winter Greetings on repeat backed by a favorite silver tray, Rebekah’s china my mother-in-love gifted me a couple of years ago (the cup is facing backwards), and other whiteware plates and teapot.

To the right is another creamware teapot and a another upright plate stack adding symetry to the china cabinet. Little gessoed pinecones add their wintery tree look.

Here is the whole china hutch… Our little squirrel friend add a touch of whimsy. 😉

He has a new teacup & saucer from which to drink his pinecone tea!

Inside the little angel window door holds my inspiration ~ this Christmas cream mug. It has a vintage Santa on the reverse. Freshly polished hotel silver trays peak out from the back of the cabinet.

For some reason, seeing the word “Cream” on that little creamer made me think of stacking up several creamers! This is how this vignette came to be.

Bits & Bobs

In our mid-century coffee-table-turned-sofa-table, I found these little white doilies I have had since my tea party days back in California. I think they add a nice touch here to our wintery scene!

A pop of red remains with the Johnson Bros. reddish-pink transferware*** complementing the upturned teacup’s dark pink rose.

***This link takes you to an RV post where I shared this transferware and a scone recipe!

I hope you have enjoyed a look at our little china hutch’s fresh look for the winter season. How have you changed up your china cabinet or other shelves in your home after the holidays? Or are you still enjoying some Christmas after-glow? Let me know in the comments.
