I love this time of year in our living room! The light is shifting just a bit as the Earth travels around the backside of the sun on its annual path.
Starting about 4:00p.m., the afternoon sunlight begins coming in the west facing window. The sunlight makes our living room just glow…
When it is really light in this room, I get inspired to change things up! The brightness just makes me happy and then it becomes fun to change up the mantel decor or bring in some flowers to place on the coffee table.
Last fall, I replaced the heavier tan curtains on these windows with my favorite old JC Penney lace curtains that I’ve had for years. They have hung in our last bedroom in the California Big House. They hung on our living room windows in our first house.
This year I have been better about not watering the Christmas and Easter cactus as often and they are thriving! I repotted them, too, with new cactus soil this spring, and I have been giving a little liquid fertilizer for indoor plants about once a month. The new jade plant (lower right, above) has grown a bit! 🙂
Two views out our back windows.
It’s fun to look out the windows and enjoy watching the squirrels eating sunflower seeds. Hubby decided to put down our camping all-weather rug to help control the dirt coming indoors. It has helped even if I really prefer the natural dirt. 🙂
Here is our living room about 6:00 or 7:00p.m. I swapped out the floral pillow covers on the three-seater sofa around Independence Day for these soft red, white & blue covers I made several years ago. As we head into fall, I will swap them back. 🙂
I’d love to pull up the carpet in here and put down hardwood or a hardwood-style strip linoleum in here, then lay a rug on top. That’s down the road. 😉
For now we just enjoy the light!

Happy late summer, y’all,
