I am blessed beyond measure and hope to share many new ideas and a new home with you in this new year. Today though we are taking a little New Year’s tour with our French chalkware maiden…
Dressed up in layered strands of pearls and my grandmother’s rosary plus a new piece of embroidered ribbon, our fair maiden is all ready for tea ~ and teatime is always a part of my transitioning from the holiday season into a relaxed winter decor.
Adding a small stack of teacups to a vignette adds an aire of gentleness to the scene which quietly send a message of calm ~ something we all need after the crazy fun and sometimes hectic pace of the holiday season.
Last year I went with whites and touches of pink to ring in the New Year. With mini dried roses and ranunculus placed in a vintage zeppelin style creamer
and styled with tealight candles in creams and whites, the scene was quite ethereal!
The white velveteen fabric previously used as a tree skirt at Christmas time helped transition the scene to snowy Nordic winter whites ~ perfect for any French loving girl.

Further transitioning led to more whites with favorite white ironstone stacked in the window creating a china cabinet effect ~ definitely something easy to do for small space living and a perfect way to transition one’s decor.

This year’s transition was made easier with the candlesticks I made in the fall by moving them from their spot on the coffee table at Thanksgiving, then next tucked in with the French Snow People in a Christmas vignette around the television, and now reusing them here in the window.
I freshening them up by pairing them with these mercury glass candlesticks I found for 50% off right before Christmas. The faux candles were found at Hobby Lobby and Lowe’s and I wish I had purchased more as I really like their glow.
I love a good sale right during the holidays, don’t you?
Adding white again with the addition of this mini pedestal topped with an antique Irish tureen and a coordinating Haviland Limoges tray ground the vignette.
Bringing a few baubles in silvers, whites and crystal
off the tree and a bit of greenery also help the transition ~ a bit of Christmas carryover just like Scrooge said in The Christmas Carol…
“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!”
The last thing was to add a faux fur throw to the sofa to replace the plaid one there previously. I have to admit I really like to snuggle and be warm in the evenings with the fireplace going and wrapped up tight and I imagine you do, too.
So these are my simple ways to transition to the New Year.
