A Heavenly Birthday Tea + Share Your Style #347

Welcome everyone to a fun idea I had this morning… Today would have been my father-in-love Pete’s 82nd birthday and to celebrate his birthday, I made a Victoria Sponge cake and invited my mother-in-love to tea…

Doing things a little differently this week. 🙂

So we are doing things a little differently this week… Since I missed SYS yesterday with working on my mother-in-law’s shed, I thought I’d get SYS out today instead.

It all began about 9am with the idea to bake a cake. This week is also Queen Elizabeth’s 70 Platinum Jubilee, which is how I came to look for a cake recipe in a favorite cookbook, A Time for Tea.

And, no, I didn’t need the baking powder or baking soda. Why they are in the picture? They were just infront of the self-rising flour in the cupboard. Props… 😉

This is a very fast cake to bake (20-25 minutes) and you use 8″ round cake pans.

I ran out of strawberry jam to put in the middle between the layers, but no matter! I popped open the lingonberry jam and mixed the two. Turns out this combination is quite tasty!!

A very simple tea table set with an assortment of teabags.

Gini was happy to come over to celebrate and it made me happy to help her to get through today and to honor my father-in-love.💜

So let’s have a piece of cake and get to our SYS party…

And here are this week’s featured posts…

    1. Hello Jean! Yes, the lingonberry added a nice tartness cutting the strawberry sweetness just perfectly. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and I’m glad you enjoyed having your chocolate tart featured!! ☺️💕

  2. I always look forward to stopping by for your party each week….thanks for having me! And a special thanks for featuring my Memorial Day post….hugs

  3. Barb, what a lovely thing you did for your mother in law! It was just recently 3 years since I lost my dad, and it remains a very difficult day for mom in particular. Thanks so much for featuring my glass pulling experience. I’ve been absence from blogging somewhat lately and its lovely to be back at your party!

    1. Hope all is well with you, Debbee. I’m sorry to hear about your dad’s passing. It has been a tough week for my mother-in-law. Pete died May 28th, just the two years ago. He was five days short of his 80th birthday so it seemed like a nice way to remember him. I miss him, too. I’m glad you enjoyed the feature! Blowing glass must have been really incredible!! 🏺💕

  4. I just saw your party through Ann. I think I used to link up but somehow lost track? I’ve got it written down on my list now!

    1. Hi Allyson! Glad to have you back. 😊 Normally the party is up on Wednesdays at 6:00 (or thereabouts) but this week we were just finishing up a shed at my MIL’s new home here in Texas at that time. So, I got the party going a day later. C’est la vie! 💕 Enjoy your weekend and I’ll look for your posts. Hugs, Barb
