Welcome to $10 on the 10th and a big thank you to Terrie of Decorate and More with Tip and Ann of Apple Street Cottage for gathering all of us together! This time of year is a time to give thanks for the blessings in our life.
Sharing our dining room table set for Thanksgiving is a perfect way to move into the holiday season. Mr. Ethereal enjoys sitting down to a lovely dinner with me but usually we use this table for Saturday and Sunday lunches. This is our time to relax and catch up from our busy work weeks.
I wish our family could all be here with us this year for Thanksgiving but this crazy year with a worldwide pandemic, it’s nice that all of us are just healthy. I’d love to have little Milo enjoy his first Thanksgiving with Grammy and Grampa Chapman, but 2020 will have just us at the table. Milo is getting really interested in our weekly FaceTime phone calls, though!

Hopefully we can take a quick trip down to our daughter’s place to have Christmas dinner with her either before or after Christmas. We have driven down the past few years and she drove up last year for just a couple of days. If she has time, she may drive up, so these tables are inspired by having our family over in the future. 🦃
Last year’s Thanksgiving table was inspired by these beautiful flowers and was part of last year’s fall Pinterest Challenge.
10 on the 10th ideas
For today’s $10 on the 10th I thought about sharing how you can set your table for one holiday using items around your home (which costs nothing), in this case Thanksgiving, then remove and add in just a few things and have a whole new look for Christmas…
A Thanksgiving Table Setting
1. For this table I brought out four fall chargers I found a couple of years ago at an after Thanksgiving sale. They were originally priced at $12 (I just cut off the tage) but I know I only paid half-price – $6.00.
Two are decorated with this sweet saying, and the other two are just decorated with pumpkins. They are also plain raffia on the reverse side which I really love for getting more out of them!
2. Villeroy and Boch’s Botanica china is the first set of tableware we ever owned as a married couple. As an exchange student to Germany my host family used this set as their day-to-day china. I fell in love with it! My host mother took me around to a shop in a 500 year old village somewhere along the Rhein River and I brought home a sweet salt and pepper shaker set and eight egg cups. That’s all I could afford then.
In my original post, I think I thought I brought home candlesticks, but I think those came from my mother. She bought us pieces for several years and would send them for my birthday or Christmas, a really lovely gift!
This china pattern is perfect for fall with all of its different florals on each piece! I highly recommend looking for it at estate sales, thrift stores and more. Do bring your old china out and use it this year for the holidays…
3. Set a beautiful centerpiece… These orange and mustard yellow mums came from a small bush I have in the backyard. Surround your Thanksgiving centerpiece with a bevy of faux and real pumpkins on an open neutral napkin.
Which brings us to our Christmas centerpiece changes…
4. Swap out the fall napkin underneath your centerpiece display for a Christmas plaid one and change the display completely! This Christmas vignette features two angels and a perfect snow-white Christmas tree.

5. The wood cut used as a riser underneath the Thanksgiving mums now acts as a hidden riser underneath the white ceramic Christmas cookie jar. The wood circle raises it just a bit to create a centerpiece trio with the tall angels.
6. Swap out the fall placemats for beautiful red and green tartan. Plaid is always a classy look for the holidays ~ from Christmas through the New Year. These were ones my mother picked up sometime while I was in high school. I am soooo grateful that she gave them to me a few years before she passed away…
7. Add gold chargers to take a festive fall Thanksgiving table to a more formal Christmasy look. The addition of gold chargers elevates the look and the Scottish tartan plaid placemats add a lot of warmth to any table setting. This style of charger can still be found in multiple colorways and they cost about $9.00 for a set of four.
8. Use real silver tableware on your table and this luncheon set of is part of 1847 Rogers Brothers Remembrance pieces I found at The Rose Bowl and also at the Longbeach Flea Markets in California back when I first started hosting friends to tea. I completed my 12-piece set with more pieces found closer to home in Temecula. Remembrance is a beautiful silver pattern and the dinner knives and forks are larger… in case you are looking for silverware for yourself… 🍽

9. Add in sweetly scented Christmas candles and ethereal mercury glass candleholders to transform your table into something magical…

Barb your tables are both lovely and the dinnerware are so pretty. I love the Friendly Village. I just have a big platter I use for turkey and a soup tureen. Baby Milo is just adorable !We also eat daily at the kitchen table and I wanted to set a Fall dinner there. Awwwwwwwwww I’m sorry Barb, but little Milo definitely stole the show today. Isn’t he just the cutest. It’s horrible that the virus is putting real face time and cuddles at risk. I can only hope that one day soon you’ll be able to do that again <3
