A Quick Peek ~ My First Craigslist Find!

Just a quick post today ~ sharing a first look at the beautiful tea/library table I found on Craigslist this past week…

A picture I posted on my Instagram feed, lol! {Couldn’t wait!} 😉
A bit nervous to answer a Craigslist add but boldly I braved the rainy weather and nerves and came away with this lovely library/tea table for what I thought was a good price.

I had just read Courtney’s post over at French Country Cottage about staying safe when contracting business with people you have never met through the internet, specifically Craigslist, so I felt pretty good about going to see this table.

This French Provincial table is a married piece with a  carved walnut base and stretcher {which I totally love!} and an oak top. Whomever remade the tabletop did a nice job distressing it and routering the edges to make it look as close as it would have to the original walnut top piece.

This photograph taken last winter at our California storage units. You can see the French commode I picked up in San Juan Capistrano in 1991 with my deaf brother (we were visiting the mission there) is sandwiched between the cedar trunk my father refinished when he and my mother were first married (original finish still) and a 1990’s era rolltop desk.

Maybe the original walnut top was falling apart or badly damaged ~ I know my French commode, which I use as my bedroom dresser, needs re-gluing every so often. I did the drawers a few years ago when we were still in California.

I am happy that the base to this tea table/library table was saved and a new top fashioned! This is too lovely a piece to throw out…

In any case, I am excited about this sweet table and it will be one of the first pieces of furniture in our new house!

Do come back tomorrow for a “Spot of Tea Alfresco” as I share more of this beautiful Craigslist tea table with you all for Valentine’s Day… ;)’

*Share Your Style will be up later today, too, so please stop back by to see what’s new and share your latest posts! Thanks!

And if you haven’t stopped by 10 on the 10th I hope you will!

  1. Barb, I love that table! What a great find! My husband tells me all the time to be careful and find out as much as I can about who I'm dealing with…you just never can tell! Hugs!

  3. It was a big scary but the man turned out to be very nice and professional. He sells online and has really nice French pieces and at fairly expensive prices, so this was a really good deal! Thanks so much for your sweet thoughts on this table, Benita. <3Happy almost spring,Barb 🙂

  5. I could go crazy picking up furniture, Jeanie! I love trunks, tables, chairs… I'll be weeding through a few things at the storage unit as we pack up this next week (March 6th) and send some stuff onto Goodwill and Salvation Army. Hubby says to bring the rest and sell things here later on. Thank you for your lovely thoughts! Wait 'til you see my next Pinterest Challenge post… The table is in our new house and decorated (first day) as I had pre-thought out a tablescape.Happy almost spring to you,Barb 🙂

  7. Hi Cindy! I don't know if I will paint the table or not… For now it'll just be as is. With all the furniture shipping this next week out of California, I am wondering just how much will be damaged and that will certainly get painted if so. I did put the new table in our new house yesterday (first day) and set up a little tablescape for an upcoming Pinterest Challenge post…Thank you so much and I am glad you like this table! It looks amazing in our new living room by the tall backyard windows.Hugs and happy almost spring,Barb 🙂

  9. Hi Katie! It is all ready at the new house as of yesterday (first day in) and I already shot pics for the upcoming Pinterest Challenge… Crazy, I know! At our last house I had a tea three weeks after moving in and I painted our main wall in our combination living/dining room and THAT was something to get ready for! Glad I don't have to do any serious painting to show the house to you all this time. ;)Happy almost spring to you, <3Hugs,Barb 🙂

  11. Hello Sarah, I just really started looking on Craigslist here in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area because I was pretty sure our coming sofas are going to be too large for this new-to-us house. That's how I found this French style table. 🙂 There are many really neat pieces out there! Hope you find something for your home one of these days. <3Thank you for your sweet thoughts, and happy almost spring,Hugs,Barb 🙂

  13. Thank you, Kathleen! Hubby and I ate our first meal in our new house yesterday on that little French table ~ Mexican from Rosa's Café here in Denton, Texas. We are just beginning moving things into the house but it was fun to have a first dinner there. Happy to share with you at Vintage Charm! Hope to be over more often once we are settled. <3Happy almost spring to you,Barb 🙂

  15. Thank you, Julie! Charles and I had our first dinner on that little table yesterday evening after I had brought over two full loads of things from our Texas storage unit. Was nice to \”just be\” in the dining room. Wait until you see it! It's a very pretty house; I am glad we bought this one. Have a great weekend and I'll try and get back over for Homestyle Gathering today with an update. <3Hugs,Barb 🙂

  17. Hello Kim! Our first day in the house was yesterday (Feb. 28th, 2019) and I had it in the living room near the three tall windows overlooking the backyard. This little French table will probably live there most of the time as a library table. For dinner I had pre-thought about needing a table and chairs so I brought over our two folding chairs from our trailer and Hubby and I enjoyed Mexican food for our first meal in our new home! The dining room really dwarfs this table, though, as does the living room without any other furniture in there… Lol!Thank you for your kind thoughts! We are excited about the move.Hugs,Barb 🙂
